Manitoba Public Insurance is considering a few changes aimed at reducing auto theft.  The changes were announced at a recent dealer meeting.  Don Neufeld of Steinbach is Past President of Manitoba Motor Dealers Association.  Neufeld says M.P.I. would like to make it mandatory that all high risk vehicles that have been stolen would have to have immobilizers installed before being re-registered.  Also, any high risk vehicle bought from outside our province would have to have an immobilizer before being registered in Manitoba.  Manitoba Public Insurance would like to have 9 of 10 high risk vehicles in our province equipped with an immobilizer within 5 years.  Right now that number sits at about 20%.
