The Mayor of Steinbach says September was a fantastic month for development in the city adding to what has been a solid year.

Earl Funk says the city issued just over $7 Million in building permits during the month of September alone.

"When you look at the year-to-date, we are presently higher this year than the last two years. We are actually better than an average year. An average year would be about $30M, $35M and we are sitting right now at a total of $38.5M,” says Funk. “It is also showing that developers have a lot of confidence in Steinbach and how our city is being run."

Funk notes developers continue to invest in Steinbach and as a result, the city continues to grow. In total, permits for 156 residential units were pulled in the first three quarters of 2020.

"I think that is a huge pat on the back for all of us in our community. The developers, our administration, council, just the fact that we are continuing to grow at a time when, well it is COVID, we shouldn't be growing."

The largest project in September was a 16-unit multifamily complex on First Street, followed by a 6-unit complex on Imperial Crescent and quite a few smaller projects. Funk says in many ways, development has continued to surprise this year.
