The nastiest parts of the forecast Montana Low appear to be missing Steinbach and the southeast.

Sunday has seen patchy freezing rain and winds reaching more than 60 kmph in Steinbach. Over the course of the day, the track of the storm has been more to the west and north.

As of 3:45 PM on Sunday, Steinbach remained under a freezing rain warning. According to Environment Canada, the risk of freezing rain will decrease throughout Sunday evening and then the precipitation would change to snow.

While Manitoba 511 was reporting bare conditions in the southeast Sunday afternoon, the freezing rain could cause roads, walkways, and parking lots to become icy and slippery. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur.

Highway 16 has been closed from Oakburn to the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border. Most highways and roads in the Pembina Valley and west of Portage La Prairie are being reported as snow-covered.

Areas in western Manitoba are expected to see up to 40 centimetres of snow.
