Provencher MP Ted Falk says he is disappointed in the Liberal Government for trying to take advantage of the coronavirus Pandemic.

In the House of Commons on Monday, The Liberals presented a section of legislation that, if approved, would give them the ability to adjust taxes and have unlimited spending allowances for a period of 21 months without parliamentary consent. This was intended to expedite COVID-19 relief efforts over the coming weeks and months. Falk says the Conservatives are completely opposed to giving the Liberals possession of what would essentially be a "unilaterally blank cheque".

“The Liberals were trying to be opportunistic about the situation that we are in,” he states, “and I think it is very shameful that they have tried to take this opportunity to try this very inappropriate power grab.”

The very reason parliament is in place is to keep governments accountable, notes Falk, to subvert the system is to undermine that accountability “that Canadians would expect any government in Canada to have.”

Falk says his party will continue to support federal emergency initiatives but will not condone Liberal efforts to manipulate their way around the global issue.
