Cool temperatures and wet weather is great for a newly seeded crop in the southeast. Manitoba Agriculture farm production advisor John McGregor says winter wheat is up and growing well.  Generally plants are at the one or two leaf stage.  Two to five leaves are desired before frost shuts down growth for the season.  He notes the plants are quite hardy and it would take at least minus five degrees for several hours to do the job.  Current temperatures are ideal for growth.  And the rain this past week has given the seed all the moisture it needs to make it through.
