RCMP have provided updates as the search for Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky continues.

Investigators continue to follow up on tips, review the physical and digital evidence collected, and share information with police forces across Canada.

Over the next 72 hours, investigators will be canvassing people in the Town of Gillam and Fox Lake Cree Nation, in hopes of gaining new information. Investigators are also exploring the possibility that the suspects may have inadvertently received assistance in leaving the area. Residents of Manitoba are reminded that the suspects may have changed their appearance to avoid being caught.

RCMP stress that there have been no confirmed sightings of the two suspects outside of the Gillam area, however, they are not ruling out any possibilities. Meanwhile, they reiterate the importance of not creating or propagating online rumours. The spreading of false information in communities across Manitoba has created fear and panic.

Beausejour RCMP note that this happened in their community on Thursday when misguided information was shared over Facebook causing people to lock their doors and close their businesses early.

It is critical that all Canadians remain on the lookout for Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky. If they are spotted, do not approach, call 9-1-1 or your local police immediately.

RCMP say there have been two confirmed sightings of Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky in Gillam. Police say these sightings were prior to the discovery of the burnt out vehicle.

There have been no reported stolen vehicles that can be attributed to the suspects. Police believe the two suspects are still in the Gillam area.

Manitoba RCMP has deployed a significant amount of resources to the search, including Emergency Response Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, and Air Services assets. The RCMP Major Crime Unit is involved, as well as RCMP North District resources, and RCMP resources from other provinces.

Police say the informational check-stop at the intersection of PR 280 and PR 290, the road leading into Gillam, continues to be in place and will be for the foreseeable future.

In the last 48 hours, police have received 80 tips.

Manitoba RCMP have confirmed two suspects in the deaths of three people from Northern BC, made it to our province.

On Monday evening, RCMP responded to a burning vehicle in the Gillam area. Police confirmed Wednesday that vehicle is the one the suspects, Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky were travelling in. As a result, there is a heavier police presence in that community.

Marietta Loewen, formerly from Mitchell, lives in Gillam. She says the town has been on high alert as police search for these two men.

"Keeping our vehicles locked, staying indoors, kind of walking together in groups and always keeping a lookout for something that might be helpful to the guys looking for them," says Loewen.

She adds the town is very quiet today.

"Not a lot of places are open," says Loewen. "Everyone's staying indoors and not really venturing out too much."

Police remind all Manitobans that these suspects should not be approached, and if they are seen to call 911 or local police immediately.
