Steinbach Community Christmas delivered 324 hampers on Wednesday in the first round of deliveries.

Carolyn Peters appreciates everyone who contributed to the Day 1 of deliveries.

“Every year, we get smoother and smoother,” she says. “We become more efficient. We have amazing volunteers who've done this for so many years and they just know what to do. We delivered from 1pm to 6pm, that was our window of delivery, and we were done by about 5:20. So, it was very efficient, very smooth, although it was cold outside! Everything just really fell into place. It was a huge success.”

A total of 1,300 hampers will be delivered this Christmas to families in Steinbach and area.

Peters says they have all the items to fill those hampers, now they need money to pay the bills for all the food.

She says donations usually start rolling in as we get closer to Christmas.

“All the donations coming into South East Helping Hands for the month of December and into January will go towards this project,” says Peters. “So, if people are still thinking about wanting to participate and be a part of this project, drop off a monetary donation. We're very, very grateful for that.”

Monetary donations are down this year, compared to the same time in 2021.

Peters appreciates the incredible community support; helping make sure that each family gets to celebrate Christmas with a meal and gifts for the children.

Online donations can be made through the Steinbach Community Christmas website, or you can deliver monetary donations to South East Helping Hands food bank on Main Street in Steinbach.
