A cooking fire got out of control at a residence on Kokomo Road south of Highway 52 around 8:30 Friday evening.

La Broquerie Fire Chief Alain Nadeau says the stove was located in a small room in the garage where the residents would cook some items so it didn't make the whole house smell.

"It's a cooking fire that went wrong, set fire to the stove and a little bit on the wall above the stove."

Nadeau adds the room where the stove was located is fully drywalled and has tin on the walls, which is probably what saved the house. He says there is a lot of fire and heat damage in that room in the garage, but the rest of the house was spared from any fire or smoke damage.

He notes when cooking, stay by the stove the entire time.
