Steinbach RCMP stopped 900 vehicles in the first week of their holiday checkstop program. Ten checkstops were held during the first week, ending December 12th.

There was one impaired driver charged, one refusal to provide a breath sample, one roadside suspension issued, one criminal code charge for driving while disqualified and fourteen other Highway Traffic Act charges.

Meanwhile, RCMP across the province stopped 3,774 vehicles in week one of the program. Thirty-three people were charged with a criminal code impaired driving offence. Last year during the same period there were twenty-five such charges.

There was one traffic-related fatality during the past week near Wabowden. The cause remains under investigation
