Grass fires are still a risk in the RM of La Broquerie.

Fire Chief Alain Nadeau says the fire department responded to a grass fire approximately one mile southeast of La Broquerie near Provincial Road 210 around 2 P.M. Sunday.

"We got called by a passerby that there was a grass fire and it was starting to encroach on some buildings in the area so we investigated and it was a good thing because it was starting to burn the cattle shelter there. We got it out fairly quickly but there was nobody home so it is a good thing that passerby called it in."

Nadeau says it appears the grass fire was started by a pile of burning stumps. He notes they have taken the fire ban off of fire pits between the hours of 6 P.M. and 6 A.M. but open fires are still not allowed because the tall dry grass is still fairly volatile.
