The three-day Red River Basin Commission Summit held in Fargo-Moorehead in January will be helpful for the Rural Municipality of La Broquerie.

Reeve Lewis Weiss and Deputy Reeve Darrell Unger attended the summit. Weiss says there was a lot of information presented, some of which will not pertain to the La Broquerie area, however, there were some useful pieces they came away with.

Understanding when our sewage lagoons discharge into the rivers, which ultimately do end up in Lake Winnipeg; the results, what each chemical or level of each chemical causes in the lake."

Weiss adds, after the information they received, he sees the La Broquerie overland flooding issues to be minor in comparison.

He says RM council has not decided whether they will become members of the commission but will decide before the next summit to be held in Winnipeg in January 2018.
