Large swaths of the Southeast are getting a taste of summer this Tuesday as the first severe thunderstorm of the year rolls through.

Environment Canada is tracking a line of severe thunderstorms across southern Manitoba that has been producing heavy rain and strong wind gusts. They also note this system is capable of producing up to toonie-size hail.

Heavy winds and rain have already hit areas on the west side of the region.

This band stretches from as far north as Niverville southwest to the American border and has been tracking eastward.

The Severe Thunderstorm Warning from Environment Canada encourages residents to be careful in these conditions, stating “Take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.”
