The Brass Lantern is closing but Echo Fitness will stay open

This is the last week of operation for a longtime local Steinbach restaurant.

The Brass Lantern is set to close its doors for good at the end of this week.

Brass owner Greg Klippenstein would not say why the restaurant is closing and has declined comment.

But Waldo Neustaedter of Century 21 says the building has been sold.

"We can confirm the address of 145 and 155 Main Street has been sold.  The purchaser is Russ Penner and another investor.  We can confirm Brass Lantern will be closing on or before January 31st.  At this point in time we are looking for a suitable tenant for the space."

Neustaedter says Echo Fitness, which is also a part of that building, will remain.

"Echo Fitness has signed a long term lease agreement with the new owners."

Despite being asked a number of times, he would not speculate or provide details on the situation with the Brass Lantern.  He would only say the infrastructure within the restaurant, that being the kitchen equipment, is part of the agreed sale.
