Loewen and Biovail are again planning trips to Germany and the United Kingdom, looking to bring some employees to their companies here in Steinbach. Last year, immigration in our city was up 24% with 200 families registered at the local settlement office. Kim Shukla is executive director for the Steinbach Chamber of Commerce. She says this kind of growth is allowing us to experience new kinds of housing developments we wouldn't see otherwise. What keeps immigrants in Steinbach? Shukla says it's the people who welcome newcomers and make them feel at home, and that is happening despite language barriers.
