A spokesperson for Birchwood Funeral Chapel says the new public health orders will greatly benefit the families they serve.

Todd Harder is the Managing Funeral Director at Birchwood. As we reported last Tuesday, Harder was advocating for capacity limits to go up to 25% or 100 people to bring them in line with churches.

re, but right now, I think it is a great step."

It may not seem like much, but Harder says the difference between 10 and 25 can make all the difference.

"If you think of your own personal family, how many are in your immediate family? Typically, it is a little more than 10 people and that is the struggle that we have had is who is included or excluded from a funeral service when there is a limit of 10 people maximum."

Harder says he is encouraged by the trend toward more open restrictions here in Manitoba. Considering their similarities, Harder is hopeful the province will soon decide to lump funeral chapels in with churches to increase capacity further.
