Haunting events in a quiet rural development just north of Landmark have the region bustling with police activity as officers investigate what is believed to be a double homicide.

According to Corporal Julie Courchaine, the St. Pierre RCMP received a call of distress from within a home near the intersection of River Road and Road 29 East at 1:15 AM Thursday morning. Immediately, she says officers were dispatched to the home. Upon their arrival, they found the bodies of two adults; a male and a female. Both individuals were declared deceased on scene.

“While officers were at the residence, a report was received of a suspicious person," she details. "Officers conducted a patrol and located an adult male, he was arrested and he is in custody.”

RCMP Corporal Julie Courchaine believes there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

Courchaine says the male is a suspect in the death of these two individuals. At this point, it is unknown if the suspect had any personal relation to the deceased. She adds police are not aware of any other suspects at this time and believe the situation is under control. “There is no ongoing threat to public safety,” she offers.

Following the early morning events, Courchaine says those living nearby have been canvased as police search for more information. Those efforts will only continue.

“We are going door to door, and we are talking to residents, ensuring we get all of the information that we can and ensuring the wellbeing of those living in this area.”

As the investigation is still active, Courchaine says RCMP are not yet publicizing the cause of death nor whether there were other children or adults in the residence at the time of death.

“Obviously this is a very tragic incident, and, on behalf of the RCMP I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the victims.”

Courchaine says more information will be made available to the public as the investigation continues.
