Game one of the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League’s best-of-seven final belongs to the Red River Mudbugs

Tristan Dueck scored with 36 seconds left in the first period and with 38 seconds left in the middle frame as the Mudbugs defeated the St. Adolphe Hawks 5-1 Friday night in St. Jean.

Red River had a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes and put the game on ice when Matthew Winter and Steven Baker scored 31 seconds apart early in the third period.

Baker also finished the night with a pair of goals.

Pierre Clement got the Hawks on the board as he put the puck in the net off a goal-mouth scramble 3:55 into the first period.

That was it for the St. Adolphe scoring as Red River goaltender Gavin Klassen stopped 36 of the 37 shots he faced.

Hawks netminder Eric Trudeau faced 43 shots.

Game two goes Sunday (3 p.m.) in St. Jean.

The series then shifts to St. Adolphe for games three & four next Wednesday and Saturday.
