A pickup truck went up in flames Friday afternoon next to the Steinbach fire hall.

Assistant Fire Chief Russ Reimer says firefighters were called to Kroeker Avenue around 3:30 pm.

"The vehicle actually happens to be on Kroeker right beside the station so even when I pulled up at the station, the smoke almost looked like it was in our own parking lot," says Reimer.

By the time crews arrived, the truck was engulfed in flames. Reimer says at this point they don't know why the truck was there or who owns it.

"It does look like the fire did indeed start in the back of the truck," says Reimer. "But why it was going like that and then abandoned right beside the fire station, in the middle of the afternoon is a bit of a mystery."

He adds the truck box was filled with uncut logs.

There were no injuries and Reimer says RCMP are investigating.
