Operation Red Nose has a new face.

Mélanié Bedard has joined the team and says she’s currently co-piloting with Mariette Kirouac and has taken over as spokesperson.

Bedard says she grew up in La Broquerie and felt it was important to be a part of the community, especially now that she’s living in Winnipeg.

“Now it’s kind of a being able to get back into my community and talk to the people with who I worked with or was associated with.”

She notes she didn’t have the opportunity to participate in the past and is excited for the chance to be more involved in the future. Bedard says Operation Red Nose is a great initiative and is important to the safety of the community.

"I think it's something we need to be thinking about, especially during the holiday season when you're wanting to spend time with family and you want everyone to be home safe and sound. I think that's really important."

This weekend 29 volunteers gave 60 safe rides home and raised over $1,200.
