A new subdivision is set to open south of Mitchell.

Waldo Neustaedter is looking to subdivide 20 unserviced rural residential lots as the first phase of a 68 lot development. It is located south of McKenzie Avenue and west of Centre Street South.

Neighbours expressed a few concerns at a public hearing Wednesday. One resident said while she does not oppose the plan, she is concerned how the increased traffic might create pedestrian safety issues. Local Councillor Bernie Stahn says those concerns should be addressed this summer when the walking path along Centre Street South is extended to McKenzie Avenue.

There was also concern from neighbours regarding how this subdivision might impact drainage in the area. Hanover Chief Administrative Officer Luc Lahaie notes all drainage concerns will be taken care of through a drainage plan.

Hanover council approved the request by Neustaedter.

Stahn says this is a good thing for his community.

"There is a definite need for additional lots, these are all two acre lots," says Stahn. "Probably at least half of this property is bush, so I think those lots will be very desirable."
