Niverville Town Council approved a conditional use for a funeral home and crematorium in the former Puratone building at 295 Main Street.

Mayor Myron Dyck says according to provincial regulations, no crematorium is allowed to be within 200 yards of a residence without signed consent from the occupant. Dyck adds they were presented with all but two of the signatures needed from residents within 200 yards of the building.

“They have now gotten signatures from all but two of the residents, they have verbal agreements from those residents. Council did pass the conditional use subject to those two residents going from verbal to signed.”

Dyck says the conditional use application is also subject to a future development agreement when the funeral home and crematorium move forward. He says this would be the only facility of its kind in Niverville.
