The Mayor of Niverville says the upcoming year will be about maintaining and building relationships as well as executing the plan they set in motion in 2015.

Myron Dyck says they started a lot of projects this last year and they want to see them through.

“A lot of 2016 will be execution of the 2015 plan. When you announce a 5 million dollar commitment to recreation, that is not a one year expenditure, that is going to be done over 20 or 25 years. When you do a business park that is done over time. A lot of it is seeing them to completion.”

Dyck says with the federal election this past October municipalities will get a chance to see what having a liberal government will mean for funding. He says we will also be having a provincial election this coming year which may have some effect on the municipal level.

“There is always a moratorium on announcements three months in advance of an election, so things that we have in the works, and we are waiting on announcements on projects that we would like to be able to go forward with, we are going to have a 90 day gap where we won't know anything.”

Dyck says one of projects that they are excited about is the annexation of land from the R.M. Of Hanover. He notes this is a project that Niverville has been working on for a number of years already and they just submitted another annexation request to the provincial government.

“We would like to see them sign off on that so that we can officially see those lands come into the community of Niverville, which on the business side will really allow us to enhance our Niverville business park project, as well as provide opportunity for lands on the south side of 311 or any kind of highway retail commercial development.”

Dyck notes there will be significant gains on the life lease project that started in 2014 but it will only be completed in 2017. He says there will also be lot's progress on recreation projects.

“We are going to see completion of the splash park that was started in the fall. We are hoping to open that in the spring. Then our next step in our field house. We made the announcement for the funding, and now the full fund raising from the personal, corporate and the government side is going to be in full kick in 2016.”

Dyck says town council is always trying to stay ahead of the curve and prepare Niverville for future growth.
