Steinbach City Council received a letter of concern from a resident living on McFarlane Place in Steinbach. They requested a four-way stop to be added at two intersections, where Loewen Boulevard and Park Road meet Old Tom Road, and that the speed limit along that stretch be lowered.

City Council acknowledged the request and a traffic study was done. Mayor Chris Goertzen says although the traffic numbers were significantly higher, it was recommended that no changes be made at this time.

"Now if we remember what happened in 2016, Hwy 12 had significant construction so that may have affected those numbers. The counts still do not warrant the changing of the speed limit on Old Tom Road, or four-way stops."

Goertzen notes Council has asked administration to monitor traffic on Old Tom Road for an additional year before they make a final decision.
