Steinbach city council has agreed to extend the 'No Parking' area along Reimer Avenue, west of Highway #12. A resident of Harvest Drive wrote a letter to council to say that it has become difficult to turn from Harvest onto Reimer because of an increase in traffic and due to parked cars blocking visibility. The administration reviewed the matter and recommended the change.

City councillor Michael Zwaagstra says council agreed to take action to remedy the problem.

"We know that Reimer Avenue West is increasingly becoming a thoroughfare street, there's a lot of traffic as we've seen over the last number of years. To address that, we've extended the 'No Parking' zone to go a little past the second Cambridge Way intersection and that is to improve visibility along that road. We think that will help with traffic in that area."

The change will take effect as soon as city staff is able to put the signs in place.

Mayor Chris Goertzen says council welcomes such feedback from residents.

"When we do get requests from citizens, we do take them seriously and we do have them reviewed. It's clear that that sometimes incites change and so I'm pleased to move forward with the recommendation."
