The Mayor of Steinbach says Old Tom Road should be fully open to traffic by mid next week.

That road has been paved this summer and Chris Goertzen says it was the topic of discussion at Friday's Open Door session. A resident suggested that with the smooth surface, it would become a race track.

"We do have enforcement that will be stepped up along Old Tom Road when it does open," assures Goertzen. "RCMP are aware of the potential there and so we will be monitoring that closely."

Goertzen says with all of the rain this summer, completing that project has been delayed, similar to what is happening along Barkman Avenue and Highway 12.

Meanwhile, the topic of Steinbach's Central Business District was also discussed Friday morning. Goertzen says there are still a number of vacancies and great opportunities for those wanting to open a business. But he notes this year alone, 12 new permits have been taken out for those looking to open a business or expand an existing one in the Central Business District.
