Those who need a ride can ring in the new year with Operation Red Nose Steinbach/La Broquerie.

Jo Anne Dalton says they are operating from Friday, Dec. 29 to Sunday, Dec. 31.

She says it has been a great season, and they are prepared for New Year’s Eve—typically one of their busiest nights of the year.

“From people trying to get to their last-minute celebrations early and people trying to get home right after midnight. People who are closing out the town and need to get home after two. So, we expect a full night of calls all weekend,” Dalton says.

She says they are committed to providing safe rides for everyone.

“Everybody who needs a safe ride should have the option to get a safe ride. Some people will get in their vehicle, and maybe they shouldn't. Maybe they're not fully comfortable with the fog or the ice on the roads or whatever that might be. Or just driving at night in general. Or maybe they've celebrated a little too much. It's just nice to know they can call us,” she says.

The number to call for those needing a safe ride is (204) 424-9555.

Dalton says they are looking for more volunteer drivers. They have room for more teams each night, but especially on New Year’s Eve.

“You're with a group. You have a celebration. You get to be on these really fun, cool two-way radios and talk to people. Pick a team name. We got great food coming this weekend, so I'll say that. And we have amazing prizes for our volunteers,” she says.

Those interested in volunteering can leave a message at (204) 424-9555 or check out the application on their website
