With only 2.6 seconds remaining in the game, Steinbach's Dylan Cassie made a beautiful toe-drag in the offensive zone, walked towards the slot and fired a wrist shot that hit the goalie but went up and over the shoulder and eventually found it's way into the back of the net for a 3-2 Pistons win.

It was Steinbach's 4th straight exhibition win with the last three coming by a single goal.

Everything And The Kitchen Sink

On Tuesday night the Winnipeg Blues made their way to the TG Smith Center and in the opening period, Steinbach fired everything towards the net.

They peppered the Blues goalie Cooper Hatfield. A couple of great chances were turned away and when the dust settled it was scoreless after 20 minutes of play despite the Pistons out shooting the Blues 16-3.

Sleepy Second

While Steinbach controlled the opening period for the most part, in the second, it was the Blues that grabbed momentum by potting a couple of goals.

Some defensive zone turnovers allowed Winnipeg to get up 2-0 as Mikol Sartor and Brayden Foreman put Steinbach in a hole.

Digging Out

With under three minutes to go in the second, a great battle along the boards was won by Pistons forward Troy Beauchemin. The second year Piston then fired a perfect pass to Rylan Bettens who went streaking down the wall, cut towards the net near the top of the circle and snapped off a perfect shot, low blocker, to pull Steinbach to within one. For Rylan, it was his first of the pre-season.

The momentum started to shift to the team in the home grey's as the horn sounded to close out 40 minutes of hockey.

Putting In A Shift

19-year-old David Queree is another player that's back for his second year of MJHL hockey and the Richmond, BC native put in a eye popping shift with under four minutes played in the third.

First, it was Queree getting involved physically as he bulled over a Blues player with a big, clean hit. Then, as the puck made it's way back into the Winnipeg zone, Queree fired a wrister from the slot that managed to find it's way through Lester Presley who replaced Hatfield midway through the second after Hatfield made 26 saves, to tie the game 2-2. Lucas Fry and Tucker Hodgson had the helpers on the goal.

laying Till The Horn Sounds

With the game looking like it was destined for overtime, the Blues were assessed a four minute penalty for butt-ending.

The power play at that point was 0-8 in the last three games but on Tuesday, it struck gold.

Dylan Cassie, who was picked up from the Winnipeg Blues earlier in the summer, made a beautiful move around the Blues forward that charged out at him at the blue line. Cassie then walked into the slot and put a heavy wrister towards the net. Presley stopped about 83% of the puck but it wasn't enough as it managed to pop up over his shoulder and slowly trickle over the goal line with a mere 2.6 seconds left on the big clock behind the net.

Cassie's first goal was assisted by another former Blues player, Codey Behun who has three points in two games.

A little talking at the face off circle but that's it as the home fans went home happy after a 3-2 Pistons win.

The power play finished 1-4 while the penalty kill, a real strength last season, was a perfect 8-8 including killing off a lengthy 5 on 3 against.

Matt Lenz played the whole game and finished with 26 saves. His best of the night came after Steinbach pulled to within one. After a scramble behind the net, the Blues centered the puck out and it was kicked towards the net by a Pistons player. Lenz was able to kick out a pad and show off some incredibly fast reflexes, keeping it a one goal game.

Game Notes

Steinbach's 16 shots in the opening period were the most in a single period so far this year. All shots were 5 on 5 as Steinbach didn't have a power play in the opening 20 minutes.

Max Neil led the team in shots with 7 while Dylan Cassie was second with 5.
