The Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach partnered with Steinbach RCMP who became the personal taxi service for staff who would otherwise not have made it into work.

Lisa Albensi is the director of health services for the hospital and she says staff either lived out of town or could not make get their vehicle off their street due to the high accumulation of snow.

"We did have some staff that stayed and worked longer hours than what they had anticipated or we had staff that were local and volunteered to come in a bit earlier than what their shift was scheduled."

Albensi notes they had to make sure staff were not working too many extra hours because they wanted hospital staff to be working in a safe manner without fatigue. She adds partnering with the RCMP was a vital and they are grateful for the help.

"We're grateful for all the staff that worked extra during the storm and staff that were able to make it in," Albensi says. "Everybodys teamwork, working together to provide the safest and best care for the patients and their families, we're very grateful for all of that. And a big thank you to the RCMP for partnering with us."

Albensi adds it ended up being a busy weekend at the hospital noting many babies were born and all the maternity ward units were filled.
