Manitoba RCMP headquarters in Winnipeg is reconsidering issuing a parade permit for the Pride march in Steinbach July 9th. RCMP initially denied organizers a permit to march on the street because of road construction on the route. Event organizers were told they would have to stick to the sidewalk. But RCMP say they are re-assessing the application.

In a written statement, RCMP say they fully support the LGBT community and the Steinbach Pride parade and are working with organizers to find a safe route for the parade and its participants. RCMP also say they will take part in the parade to ensure security and say they look forward to walking alongside the participants July 9th.

Here is the statement that was issued by RCMP.

"The RCMP fully supports the LGBT community and the Steinbach pride parade. The Steinbach RCMP has been working with event organizers to find a safe route for the parade and its participants. While a permit was initially declined for safety reasons, we are re-assessing the request. Our primary concern was and remains the safety of event participants. Our officers will be there to ensure security and are looking forward to walking alongside participants on July 9th."
