Drivers in the City of Steinbach will need to find alternative routes through the city’s core late this week and into the weekend as many streets are being closed for the annual Summer in the City festival.

The City of Steinbach has provided a handy map outlining which streets will be closed and for how long.

The first street to be closed off will be Reimer Avenue (yellow) from First Street to Main Street and from Main Street to Elmdale Street. That section will be closed at 7 AM Thursday morning and will remain closed for the duration of the festival, reopening on Sunday at midnight.

Then, at 6 PM on Thursday, Steinbach’s Main Street (red) will be closed from Friesen Avenue to Barkman Avenue. It will also reopen at midnight on Sunday.

There will also be a few shorter closures.

With Steinbach Credit Union hosting a pancake breakfast to kick off festivities, Lumber Avenue (green) will be closed from Main Street to Elmdale Street on Friday from 7 AM to 11 AM.

Meanwhile, Lumber Avenue (dark blue) from Main Street to First Street will be closed to traffic from noon to 9 PM on Saturday to accommodate the Heat the Streetz dance competition, the Shred in the City skateboard competition, and the foot traffic for both events.

Finally, Main Street (light blue) from Friesen Avenue to Brandt Street or Highway 12 will be closed on Saturday from 3 PM to 9 PM for the Show N’ Shine.
