After nearly 40 years in the business, the owner of Rush Sanitation has decided to start scaling down.

Melvin Rush notes due to some health concerns he decided it was time to pull the plug on something. He says as of tomorrow they will be discontinuing most of their residential pickups but adds they will still offer its roll-off bin service and residential pickup in the town of LaBroquerie.

Rush says this was not an easy decision to make. "It wasn't but I had to make a decision, it wasn’t an easy one but yeah we had to make it so, health reasons come first."

Luc Lahaie CAO for the Rural Municipality of Hanover notes they currently offer waste collection to their five urban communities which include Blumenort, Kleefeld, New Bothwell, Mitchell, Grunthal and any rural residential areas that are directly contiguous to one of these communities. He says they are now referring all other residents to Pak-Man Disposals or to Bristal Hauling.

"It’s a service we do want to expand eventually and if we do hear of large pockets of rural residential areas in Hanover that want to hop in to this kind of service, we’d love to hear from the residents either by email or a phone call to the office and then we can look at extending this service to these in the municipality."

This will be in effect as of tomorrow October 31st.
