The Seine River School Division is getting ready to present budget information to the public, ahead of the March 31st deadline of having budgets submitted to the province.

Board chair Wendy Bloomfield says they are striving to balance the budget within three years.

She notes the Kids At Play (KAP) program will be cancelled for the new school year.

Busing for non-funded K-4 students living between 0.8 and 1.6 kilometers from school is maintained, but on a fee for service basis. The cost will be $500 per household per school year or $50 per month, says Bloomfield.

The division is still working out the details of nutrition programs. The provincial government announced funding for school divisions to help provide food to students.

“We received $266,000 specifically for nutrition programs,” says Bloomfield. “The direction from the department is that 65% must be used for food.  From 0-35% may be used on staffing, equipment or a combination thereof. Our administration is working with schools to develop a plan.”

Bloomfield invites the public to attend a budget information session on Tuesday, March 5th at Ecole Lorette Immersion School from 6pm to 7:30pm.
