154 Friesen Avenue in Steinbach is the new home of the Seine Rat River Conservation District.

Board chair Cornie Goertzen says the building had to be renovated into an office space from a home and the cost of those renovations came in at approximately $20,000.

"We had to make it wheelchair accessible according to federal standards," notes Goertzen. "The exterior door, the front door, had to be changed to be wide enough for a wheelchair to come in. We had to change the washroom door, and we had to make the hallway a bit wider going to the offices."

Goertzen says they also took out the kitchen and dining area to serve as their boardroom and renovated the basement for additional office space as well. He adds they are happy with the results.

"This house is supposed to serve us for many years to come. The downstairs, initially we thought we would have the boardroom there, but we changed that to make it suitable for people that are working there steady, to work downstairs if they need, or for the summer students to work down in the basement area."

He adds they are currently using the garage for storage and project preparation, he notes they are also looking at how to utilize the garden space in the backyard.

Goertzen says an open house is being planned for sometime in August.
