Ross L. Gray of Sprague will meet St. Paul’s of Elie at 9 a.m. in the quarterfinals of the Provincial A/AA  Junior Varsity Girls Basketball championship at Springs Christian Academy in Winnipeg. The A/AA boys championship is at Immanuel Christian School in Winnipeg. Green Valley defeated Ste. Rose 95-35 and then lost 86-47 to the host Falcons in the quarterfinals. Gabrielle Roy fell 54-49 to Prairie Mountain in a play-in game. Les Roy will face Warren at 10:15 a.m. and that winner will meet Green Valley in the consolation semifinals.


The Eastman Selects dropped a 2-1 decision to the Westman Wildcats in Hartney Thursday night in game one of the Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League's best-of-five semifinal. Ava Boily had the lone goal for the Selects. Game two goes Saturday afternoon in Niverville.


The second round of the Capital Region Junior Hockey League playoffs begin tonight. The St. Malo Warriors host the Lundar Falcons and the Beausejour Comets face the Fishermen in Selkirk. Those are the first games in their respective best-of-seven semifinals. 


Seven Hockey Manitoba Provincial Championships take place this weekend. The CO-ED U-13 Rural AA championship will be held in Morden; the Rural A championship is in The Pas; Rural B championship in Killarney; the Rural C championship is in Gimli; Carman is hosting the Rural A1 championship and the Rural A2 championship is in Oakbank & Hazelridge. The Provincial CO-ED U-18 Rural A/B championship will take place in Ste. Agathe & Niverville. 


The playoffs begin today at the Brier in Regina. Reid Carruthers will meet defending champion Brad Gushue and Mike McEwen of Saskatchewan will take on Brendan Bottcher of Alberta in the Page 1-2 qualifying games at 1 p.m. Matt Dunstone will play in the Page 3-4 qualifying game at 7 p.m. against the loser of the Carruthers vs Gushue game. The loser of the McEwen vs Bottcher game will face Jamie Koe of Northwest Territories in the other 3-4 qualifier.

The Steinbach Huskies extended their playoff winning streak to eight games with a 2-1 double overtime victory over the Springfield Xtreme last Sunday in game one of the final. Xtreme coach Kevin Augustine will join Clayton Dreger on the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League Report which airs Fridays at 5:15 p.m. on AM 1250 Radio.
