Ike Bueckert of the Steinbach Fly-In Golf Club is in a tie for 17th place heading into round two of the Provincial Senior Men's Golf Championship at the St. Boniface Golf Club in Winnipeg. Bueckert was seven-over par 79 Wednesday and trails first round leader Todd Fanning of Niakwa by eight shots. Barry Mymko of Quarry Oaks opened with an 82; Sheldon Bouchard of the Maplewood Golf Club in St. Pierre and Les Forbes of Quarry Oaks were 83 and Donald Troschuk of the Fly-In was 91. Rhonda Orr of Southwood was three-over par 77 and leads clubmate Fran Povoledo by three shots heading into round two of the Provincial Senior Women's Championship which is also at St. Boniface.


Cala Korman of Killarney was the lone Manitoban to make the cut for the final two rounds of the 109th Canadian Women's Amateur Golf Championship at the Ashburn Golf Club in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Korman was one-over par 73 Wednesday and has a 36-hole total of plus eight. Brooke Rivers of Brampton, Ontario was three-under par 69 and has the lead at minus 10. The cut line was plus 10. Jeri Lafleche of Winnipeg was 81 and plus 11; Clara Peake of Binscarth was 80 and plus 16 and Addison Kartusch of Winnipeg was 86 and plus 18. Korman, Lafleche and Peake finished in third place, five shots back of Ontario in the inter-provincial team competition.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers meet the B.C. Lions tonight (7:30 p.m.) at Investors Group Field. The Blue Bombers added linebacker Kyrie Wilson, cornerback Winston Rose and fullback Konner Burtenshaw to the roster. Off the roster are defensive back Jamal Parker, cornerback Abu Daramy-Swaray and linebacker Jared Beeksma. Winnipeg (5-2) lost 30-6 to B.C. in week three at home and trail the Lions (6-1) by two points in the race for top spot in the CFL's West Division. The late Bud Grant will be honoured before the game with some of his family present at IG Field. No coach has won more games in Blue Bombers history than Grant's 102 or Grey Cup championships, with four. 


The Kansas City Monarchs’ bullpen pitched four perfect innings in helping the ball club to a 6-2 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Legends Field. Winnipeg didn't have a baserunner after the fifth inning as the last 14 Goldeyes batters were retired in order. 


Baseball Canada's 22U Men's Championship begins today at Quarry Park in Stonewall. The host Interlake Blue Jays will face Prince Edward Island and Ontario (1) on day one while the Elmwood Giants open against Quebec.


The Winnipeg Jets have agreed to terms with forward Rasmus Kupari on a two-year contract with an average annual value of $1,000,000. The 23-year-old from Kotka, Finland played 66 games for the Los Angeles Kings in 2022-23 and recorded 15 points (3G, 12A) and 12 PIMs, while also playing in all six playoff games. Kupari, who was the Kings first-round pick (20th overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft, was acquired by the Jets in a trade on June 26th. 


The Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame has announced its Class of 2023. The inductees include long distance runner Chris Glowach, swimmer Kelly Stefanyshyn, former Winnipeg Blue Bombers receiver Milt Stegall, Brent Bottomley from cross-country skiing and athletics coach Alex Gardiner. Terry Braunstein's 1965 Brier championship team with Ray Turnbull, Ron Braunstein and Don Duguid will also be inducted. The Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame annual induction ceremony will take place Thursday, November 2nd in Winnipeg.

Carillon finished second at the Provincial 18U AAA Tier One Championship this past weekend in Winnipeg. Sultans coach Jamieson Krentz will join Clayton Dreger on the Carillon Minor Ball Report which airs Thursdays at 5:15 p.m. on AM 1250 Radio.
