Canada closed out the preliminary round in first place in Group A at the 2023 World Women's Hockey Championship in Brampton. Jamie Lee Rattray scored the winner in the ninth round of the shootout as Canada shaded the United States 4-3. Sarah Fillier, Laura Stacey and Marie-Philip Poulin also scored for the Canadians. Ann-Renée Desbiens stopped 26 of 29 shots and eight of nine shots in the shootout. The quarterfinals take place Thursday. 


The Winnipeg Jets magic number to clinch a spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs is one.  The Jets need one point in their final two games to earn a berth in the post-season after downing the San Jose Sharks 6-2 Monday night at Canada Life Centre. Josh Morrissey had a goal and two assists for Winnipeg. Pierre-Luc Dubois, Adam Lowry, Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele and Mason Appleton also scored for the Jets. Winnipeg is three points ahead of the Nashville Predators for the second wild card in the Western Conference with two games remaining. Nashville eliminated the Calgary Flames from playoff contention with a 3-2 shootout win on Monday. Winnipeg will face the Minnesota Wild tonight in St. Paul and play their regular season finale Thursday against the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche in Denver. The Predators host the Wild on Thursday and the Avalanche on Friday. 


The Manitoba Moose Hockey Club announced its 2022-23 player award winners. Declan Chisholm, who had 43 points through 59 games and is seventh among AHL defenceman in points, received the Most Valuable Player Award. The Best Defenceman Award went to Leon Gawanke. Dean Stewart was the recipient of the Rookie of the Year Award. The 24-year-old Portage la Prairie native has one goal and 16 assists in 56 games. Jimmy Oligny received the Julian Klymkiw Community Service Award and the Fan Favourite Award went to Jansen Harkins. The Moose begin their final road trip of the 2022-23 regular season tonight against the Texas Stars.


The Winnipeg Ice will face the Moose Jaw Warriors in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference semifinals. The first two games of the series are set for Friday and Saturday at the Wayne Fleming Arena. The Saskatoon Blades will meet the Red Deer Rebels in the other conference semifinal. The Blades defeated the Regina Pats 4-1 Monday night in the deciding seventh game of their opening round series. The Portland Winterhawks take on the Kamloops Blazers and the Prince George Cougars face the Seattle Thunderbirds in the Western Conference semifinals. 


The Eastman Flames lost 9-2 to St. Albert Mission and 9-1 to Alberta Fusion in the U19 AA Division on day one of the 2023 Canadian Ringette Championships in Regina. The Flames will face Ontario and British Columbia today. The Eastman Flames fell 3-2 to Burlington and 4-3 to Alberta Blaze in the U16 AA Division. Eastman will meet St. Albert Mission and New Brunswick on day two. 


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed American receiver Gavin Garner and Canadian offensive lineman Tyler Grisolia. Garner comes to the Blue Bombers after attending rookie mini camps with both the Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints last spring. The Newcastle, Oklahoma native finished his five-year collegiate career at Oklahoma State with 149 receptions for 2,414 yards and 25 touchdowns in 40 games. Grisolia dressed for seven games for the University of Toronto Blues last year and most recently attended the Canadian Football League’s invitational combine at the University of Waterloo.

Team Terrick and Team McDonald won bronze at the 2023 Canadian Junior Curling Championships in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. Zoey Terrick and Jordon McDonald's third Reece Hamm will join Clayton Dreger on This Week in Curling which airs Tuesdays at 5:15 p.m. on AM 1250 Radio.
