The Ste. Anne Aces have advanced to the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League final for the second year in a row. Brenden Walker and Matt Bailey scored two goals each as Ste. Anne downed Winkler 6-2 and swept the best-of-five semifinal in three straight. Jordan DePape and Caleb Paisley also scored for the defending champion Aces. Mark Hildebrand and Cam McNabb replied for the visiting Royals. 


Two Steinbach Pistons are Manitoba Junior Hockey League award winners. Noah Szabo is the Top Defenseman and forward Grady Hoffman is the Rookie of the Year. Winkler Flyers captain Trent Penner is the Most Valuable Player; Josh Lehto of the Virden Oil Capitals is the Frank McKinnon Memorial Award recipient for Hockey Ability & Sportsmanship; OCN's Tomas Anderson is the Top Goaltender and Blizzard bench boss Eric Labrosse is the Coach of the Year. 


The Steinbach Pistons, Winkler Flyers and Virden Oil Capitals are all in the top half of the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s weekly Top 20 rankings. The MJHL's East Division leading Pistons fell from number two to number three. The Flyers stayed at four and the West Division leading Oil Capitals remain at number eight. The OCN Blizzard received Honourable Mention. The Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Collingwood Blues are the number one ranked team in the country for the second week in a row. 


The Eastman Selects need a win tonight over the Wheat Kings in Brandon in order to extend their 2023-24 Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League season. The Wheat Kings lead the best-of-five quarterfinal two games to none after beating the Selects 10-2 and 7-0 in the first two games of the series.


Reid Carruthers has a 3-0 record and Matt Dunstone is 2-1 heading into day five at the Brier in Regina. Carruthers will meet Catlin Schneider of British Columbia and Dunstone will take on James Grattan of New Brunswick on today's 9 a.m. draw. Carruthers has the only perfect record in Pool A. Trevor Bonot of Northern Ontario and Brendan Bottcher of Alberta are 3-1. Jamie Koe of Northwest Territories leads Pool B at 4-1.

The Provincial Masters Men's Curling Championships was held last month in Portage. 2024 champion Randy Neufeld will join Clayton Dreger on This Week in Curling which airs Tuesdays at 5:15 p.m. on AM 1250 Radio.
