The Steinbach Huskies are one win away from advancing to the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League final. Brandon Palmer stopped all 30 shots he faced as Steinbach shutdown Niverville 3-0. Cole Topham, Ethan Plett and Theo Koop did the goal scoring for the defending champion Huskies who lead the best-of-seven semifinal three games to none. Clippers netminder Linden Meilleur made 37 saves. Game four goes Friday night at the T.G. Smith Arena.

The Niverville Nighthawks have won back-to-back games for the first time since the middle of December. Brendan Bottem and Kaycee Coyle scored shorthanded goals 42 seconds apart early in the third period as Niverville downed the Winnipeg Blues 5-2 at Hockey for All Centre. Michael Debrito added a power play goal at 8:13 of the final frame. Ty Kennett and Josh Danis also scored for the Nighthawks who extended their lead over Selkirk to six points in the race for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's East Division. Alex Iafallo, Brenden Dillon and Kyle Connor also scored for the Jets (37-15-5) who have won four in a row and seven of their last eight games. Josh Morrissey and Nikolaj Ehlers chipped in with two assists each. Laurent Brossoit made 36 saves and is 6-1-1 in his past eight starts.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman says he doesn't think the Winnipeg Jets' attendance issues are a red flag for the team's viability. Bettman spoke to the media prior to the Jets' home game against the St. Louis Blues and says he doesn't see it as a crisis but there needs to be a collaboration between the community and the club. The Jets say their season-ticket base has dropped in three years from about 13,000 to just under 9,500. Canada Life Centre is the league's smallest permanent arena with a capacity of just over 15,000 for hockey games, and the Jets have the second-lowest average attendance at just over 13,000. Only 13,139 spectators took in Tuesday's contest between the Jets and Blues which was the lowest attended game at Canada Life Centre in over a month.

Sarah Nurse scored twice including the winner 3:46 into overtime as Toronto shaded Minnesota 4-3 in the lone PWHL game. Ste. Anne's Jocelyne Larocque drew assists on Nurse's game winner and Kali Flanagan's power play goal two minutes into the second period. Brandon's Kristen Campbell picked up the win as she stopped 27 of 30 shots.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced the signing of left-handed pitcher Tasker Strobel. The Indiana native served as the Goldeyes’ closer in 2022. His 21 saves ranked second in the American Association and were tied for the fourth-most in club history. The 28-year-old finished the season with a 2-3 record and a 3.42 earned run average in 53 appearances and represented the Goldeyes at the All-Star Game in Rosemont, Illinois. Winnipeg now has 14 players under contract for the 2024 season. American Association clubs may carry up to 30 players during spring training, which begins May 1st.
