Nicole Hildebrand of the Steinbach Regional Secondary School is one of four recipients of the $1,000 Dr. Dale Iwanoczko Memorial Volleyball Scholarships. The Sabres left side hitter led the SRSS to the South Central Athletic Conference championship this season and was selected an SCAC all-star. Hildebrand has won national championships with the Cobras club team which is based in Winnipeg and was selected to the Volleyball Manitoba All-Manitoba 2021-22 Graduating Team. The other three scholarship recipients were Katya Cisneros of St. Mary’s Academy, Sammy Ludwig of Westgate Mennonite Collegiate and Nolan Houde of St Paul’s Collegiate in Elie.

 

The Lorette Comets face the Springfield Xtreme tonight (8 p.m.) in Oakbank in game six of the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League's best-of-seven final. The Comets lead the series three games to two after beating the Xtreme 5-2 Sunday in Ile des Chenes.

 

The Winnipeg Jets traded forward Andrew Copp, defenceman Nathan Beaulieu, and the contract of injured centre Bryan Little before Monday's NHL trade deadline. Copp and a sixth-round selection in the 2023 draft were sent to the New York Rangers. Winnipeg received forward Morgan Barron, two conditional second round picks, and a fifth-round pick in 2023 in return. Beaulieu was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2022 draft. Little's contract and unsigned prospect Nathan Smith were moved to the Arizona Coyotes for a 2022 fourth-round draft pick. The Jets also acquired defenceman Markus Phillips from the Los Angeles Kings for defenceman Nelson Nogier and forward Zach Sanford from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2022 draft. On Sunday, the Jets acquired Mason Appleton from the Seattle Kraken for a fourth-round pick in 2023.

 

Randy Neufeld of La Salle and Terry Ursel of Neepawa won the 2022 Provincial Senior Curling Championships in Beausejour. Neufeld, Dean Moxham, Peter Nicholls, Dale Michie and fifth Andy Stewart beat Richard Muntain of the Granite Curling Club in Winnipeg 9-4 in the senior men's final. Ursel, Wanda Rainka, Brenda Walker, Tracy Igonia and fifth Darla Hanke defeated Judy Colwell from East St. Paul 9-1 in the senior women's final. Neufeld and Ursel will represent Manitoba at the National Championships in December at a location yet to be announced by Curling Canada.
