Council for the Town of Ste. Anne received the results from their cannabis survey at Tuesday's council meeting and the Mayor says they were disappointed with the level of participation.

Residents were given the chance to voice their opinion on whether the sale of cannabis should be allowed in Ste. Anne or not. Mayor Richard Pelletier says council reviewed the results and adds they were surprised with what they saw.

"There's probably about ten percent of people that responded to the survey. We're not giving up, we want more people to give us their opinion. We also have another survey that's happening at the Villa Youville and we want to know what the older people think about this and their opinion on that."

Of the ten percent of residents who did respond, Pelletier notes a strong majority are in favour of allowing the sale of cannabis in town. He adds they're still waiting on more information from the community development corporation before making their final decision.

"The CDC has appointed a subcommittee to gather information in regards to the rules and regulations for cannabis. Like I said, we want to make an educated decision and we have not managed to gather enough information to form a decision yet."

Pelletier says they want to make the best decision they can for the residents of Ste. Anne but adds in order to do that, they need feedback from the community. He notes the survey is still online on the Town of Ste. Anne website and any interested residents can go find the link to fill it out.

The Town of Ste. Anne is among the group of municipalities that have yet to announce their decision on the matter.
