The brand new Ste. Anne skatepark hosted the first ever Skate Jam skateboard competition Saturday afternoon.

Jamie Rogers is part of the Ste. Anne skatepark board and an organizer of the Skate Jam. She says it took eight years of fundraising to build the skatepark in Ste. Anne and it is exciting to see so many people show up to enjoy it.

"Business Board shop and 33 skate team helped me put it together and there was a skateboard demo and then competition and a little bit of practicing, the older guys showed the little kids tricks and stuff. It was pretty neat. We also had a barbecue here, a hot dog, drink, and chips were five dollars to raise money for the park."

Rogers says there were was an under 16 and an over 16 age category for the local competition. She says she counted 150 people at the skatepark for the Skate Jam.

"All the rural people are coming here to check out our park because we check out theirs so this is just a little family of skateboarders."
