Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow, seemed to be the tune of the weather this past weekend, and Steinbach City crews responded in full force.

“We’ve been working right through the weekend,” says Public Works Head Randy Reimer who indicates that his crews began street clearing early Saturday and have been working ever since.

“It’s been slow going,” comments Reimer, “We started our plowing operations when there were around 3 inches of snow, but then it continued snowing and we had to go back and re-plow some of them.”

Reimer notes some areas of Steinbach received up to 8 inches of snow or around 20 centimeters.

Though not every street in the city will be fully plowed by the end of the day, Reimer says his crews are taking a brief break during Christmas and Boxing Day to spend time with their families. “Whatever we don’t finish today we will finish up early this Thursday.”

Reimer mentions that snowplow drivers have encountered several parked vehicles during their rounds and asks motorists to kindly remove their vehicles from roadways during and immediately after large snowfalls to facilitate proper cleaning.

“It makes it a lot easier for everybody if they have their vehicles moved off when the snow falls like this.”

Niverville also reminds its residents that there is a snow route parking ban in effect today between 6 AM and 6 PM this evening.
