Environment Canada says a low pressure system is about to change our weather significantly.

Southeasterly winds of 30 to 50 km/h will produce wind chill values as low as -38 degrees tonight. But, those southerly winds will then help warm the air during the second half of the night.

Daytime highs on Friday could climb to -9 degrees for Steinbach, which is 12 degrees warmer than normal.

The relief from the cold will be short-lived. On Friday afternoon, snow will begin spreading into the province from the south. A snowfall warning has been issued with 10 to 15 centimetres of snow expected in Steinbach and area on Friday night.

Friday night will see northwesterly winds develop and combined with the fresh snow will reduce visibility. The area most impacted by the blowing snow on Friday night will be southwestern Manitoba into the western Red River Valley.

An additional two to four centimetres of snow is expected on Saturday. Strong northwesterly winds of 40 to 60 km/h will produce widespread blowing snow throughout the day. Winds will gradually ease on Saturday night with improving conditions.

Environment Canada says temperatures will remain below normal through the remainder of the weekend, but a milder weather pattern is likely to develop next week.
