A man from Winnipeg is dead after a swimming incident in Whiteshell Provincial Park.

On Tuesday at approximately 4 pm, Lac du Bonnet RCMP received a report of a possible drowning at Pine Point Rapids. Officers were told that a 33-year-old male from Winnipeg was sliding down the falls when he entered the deeper part of the water and immediately began having difficulty.

The male then went under and did not resurface. A bystander jumped into the water to provide assistance but could not get to him in time.

On Wednesday at approximately 2:30 pm, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, along with assistance from Manitoba Conservation Officers and Manitoba Parks staff, located and recovered the body.

Lac du Bonnet RCMP continue to investigate.
