Council in the RM of Tache passed a motion Tuesday night calling on the province to honour a commitment to fix a bridge across the Seine River Diversion, 1.5 miles east of Landmark. The bridge was closed in September, 2015 after being declared unsafe due to bank erosion.Repairs were scheduled to begin this past fall. Mayor Robert Rivard says he got quite a surprise at a recent meeting with the Minister of Infrastructure.

Tache Mayor Robert Riva
"We had a meeting a month ago with the Minister responsible for Infrastructure, Mr. Pedersen, and they were under the understanding that we were okay if the bridge wasn't repaired and that we could have alternate routes around it. We informed him that we wanted to see the bridge repaired, and now we have a motion going forward from our council meeting, reaffirming the fact that we want to see the province to repair that bridge."

Rivard says the bridge closure has resulted in a lengthy detour for area residents and it's important that it be fixed this year.

"It's a needed route for the residents of that area. We expect it to be done."

In January last year, Manitoba Infrastructure indicated it would start repairs on the bank of the diversion in the late fall of 2016 with the bridge repairs to follow.
