The 1990's were a time of significant issues and events, both for Manitoba, and across Canada. And in our Province, the Honourable Gary Filmon P.C., O.C., O.M., was in the Premier's chair through it all. In a recollection of his more than 11 years atop Manitoba's government, His Honour Gary Filmon has released a book, commemorating that time in history. The book is called "Yes We Did: Leading in Turbulent Times". The Honorable Mr. Filmon, shared more about the process, with Golden West On-Air Host Jayme Giesbrecht.

For a young, ambitious candidate, going door-to-door seemed to be the most logical campaigning strategy.

Outlined in Chapter 10, when he entered office, Mr. Filmon ended up with the youngest senior administration in Canada, but one with fresh ideas for new policies, and the energy to work long hours.

Now, as the title suggests, there certainly were "turbulent times" in the 1990's...Chapter 36 recounts the flood of '97, and the steps taken to deal with the aftermath. One of the most significant flood protection measures in Manitoba is the Red River Floodway. And as an engineering student, a young Gary Filmon was a part of the design of the structure. Interestingly, it came full circle, as he saw it in action as Premier.

One takeaway from the book, especially during an election time, is that every vote counts.

And a final question -- not an easy one, but Jayme asked His Honour Gary Filmon what he would most like to be remembered for? To hear his answer to that and a whole lot more -- check the AM1250 Audio Vault for their conversation.
