The faulty BellMTS landlines in Tolstoi have been restored. Mostly.

Up until recently, roughly 50 BellMTS customers living in the region had been without reliable telephone capabilities for nearly a month. Distressed by the potential safety hazard of this inconvenience, Emerson-Franklin Reeve David Carlson pressed the provider, urging them to solve the problem. Then, late last week, he says BellMTS told him the problem had been repaired.

“After we reached out to them, they confirmed that it had been fixed. They said there could possibly be some intermittent issues going forward, but those would be one-offs.”

Though the response from BellMTS did not offer 100% certainty, Carlson remains optimistic. He says he spoke with a handful of the affected Tolstoi residents, all of whom indicated that their telephones were functioning normally following the fix.

“As far as we know, everything is resolved," comments the Reeve, "still, we have asked BellMTS to keep us in the loop regarding any problems going forward, because for us it is definitely a public safety issue.”

From what Carlson gathered during his communication with BellMTS, there was a hard-to-find malfunction somewhere along one of the telephone lines that connected to the area. “I guess those lines travel for great distances and they had to find exactly where the problem was,” he offers.

Carlson has asked BellMTS to contact him if the problem persists but he hopes, for the residents’ sake, that they will have no more issues in the future.
