National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo kicks of Wednesday and the program coordinator at the Jake Epp Library says there are traditional writers and rebels.

Madi Friesen explains there are different ways of accomplishing the 50,000-word goal in 30 days.

Violet Moore writing her 50,000 words during a previous NaNoWriMo."I'm what is called a NaNoWriMo rebel. Traditional NaNoWriMo novelists will write 50,000 words of one continuous story. A rebel is someone who will write 50,000 words of creative writing. So, it can be any type of short stories or poetry or short pros."

Friesen adds there are also a couple ladies who are writing short essays and then compiling them into a memoir.

She says last year they had 16 writers in their group and this year it's grown to 27. Friesen notes the growth seems to be from word of mouth and friends inviting others to give the challenge a try.

"Also, I know a lot of people have it on their bucket list to write a book and this is a great way to start."

Friesen says 50,000 words is an average of 1,667 words a day and a total of 167 pages.

She adds the library is having write-in sessions on November 4, 7, 18, 22, and 25.
