Roseau River Chief Terrence Nelson says First Nations people have received  little from the treaties that were signed.

Hundreds of aboriginal people have converged on Lower Fort Garry for a week-long event.  Native elders and leaders attending the conference want to ensure the treaty rights of Canada's First Nations are honoured.  Roseau River Chief Terrence Nelson says native people have received  little from the treaties.  He says the only thing that came out of the treaties was a lot of non-Native immigrant treaty rights and the natives didn't really get any land out of it because it was all their land in the first place.  Nelson, from the Treaty 1 area, says there is no need for new agreements.  He says they just want the original agreements honoured.
