There was a truck fire early Thursday morning south of Steinbach. Deputy Steinbach Fire Chief Ron Chausse says they got the call around 3 a.m. to Provinicial Road 303 (Ridge Road), just west of Highway #12. He says a Chevy Silverado pick-up truck was destroyed. Chausse says the driver got out unharmed and told firefighters how it may have started.

"He's thinking that he had some recyclables in the back of the vehicle as well as some tree branches and so on in the box of the truck. We're thinking that potentially this could have been due to a smoking incident of some sort. But we were not really able to determine the cause 100%."

There were no injuries and the scene was cleared by about 4 a.m.
